It is one of the few central schools in Shimla. Located at high altitude of Jakhoo hills, it was established on 1st April 1964 by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. It is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education. It is situated at a height of about 7000 feet. It is very near to the two famous spots in Shimla that is Ridge and the Mall Road.
It is a ten minutes trek from the famous The Ridge, Shimla. This trek is a steep ascent, with a very fine road surrounded by sky touching Deodar trees on the either side of road. Students from different nearby places come here to study. The school has a strength of about 1500 students. It possesses a quality staff of about 40 teachers.
The school possesses two very fine buildings. All the classes are well furnitured and provided with all essentials. There are two spacious playgrounds in the school. One is for the junior classes upto fifth standard while the bigger playground is for the senior classes. Proper laboratories and well equipped libraries are provided by the school.
Though the school does not provide any hostel facility but it has staff quarters. As it is a Central School, therefore transfer of teachers from various other Central Schools is very common. So in order to provide them easy residence facility, the school has provided the staff quarters.
In winters the place where the school is located experiences a heavy snowfall.

| Posted By: Rahul gautam Posted Date: 22 Jan 2011 Points: 0 | A very astounding move was taken by the KV School by introducing the Indian attire "kurta payjama" and replacing the western uniform for its girl students.
This was done some 3 years back.
Maybe the school aims at bringing its students closer to their tradition and feel comfortable in Indian dresses too or it was merely copying the St. Bedes College.
The girls didn't seem quite happy about this. |
