As far as my knowledge is concerned the old name of Kullu was Kullut.

Dear Hemant Ji,

You are right the old name of Kullu is "Kalut"

Kullu was added in Himachal Pardesh in 1966, how ever it was decleared as separeate district even three years before it is included in Himachal Pardesh, that is in 1963
