Well, Dial-up connection is the form of internet access through the telephone line, which can be hard lines or remotely connected to the service providers. PSTN i.e. Public switched telephone network is the backbone of such a kind of internet connection. Here, the user has to use an attached modem in order to make a connection with the service provider.
When we look at the architectural of this network, we don't need any kind of other infrastructure other than the telephone network, just plug your line into your modem and make a go to the world of internet. These days it is the extensively used service across the India and mostly in rural or remote locations. Since, broadband and other technologies are not installed in the locations having low rate of population henceforth, this is the best option. This is best for low /average status people as this is affordable to all of them. Almost all the telephone network companies provide this service wherever their network goes with cheap rates. Thus, today no time is wasted for connecting yourself to this hub of networks from your workplace.
Dial-up takes time to establish itself since it works on dialing tone. Firstly it synchronizes itself before data transfer takes place. V.90-92 protocol is mostly used for the maximum transfer speed of 56kbit/s., however the average goes around 40-50 kbit/s. speeds vary from the type of modem one is using and the traffic on that line also plays an important role in determining the actual speed. Speed decreases relatively if one is using many connections on the same line. The speed is directly proportional to the distance of the location from the exchange.
So, with the introduction of 3-G this dial-up service will get a setback, which is sure but it would take more years to takeover this service. Till than dial-up connections will be a good choice for the masses.
