Himachal Highly Sensitive in Environment Change

In a Conference on Forestry Solutions organized at Shimla the fact has been disclosed that the Himachal Pradesh falls under the most sensitive zones of the environment change in the Himalayan region. Prof. N.H. Ravindaran, an environment expert and renowned environmentalist, has claimed in his research papers that the one third to two third bio diversity of the northern Himalayan range is in danger. It says that the forest boundaries are shifting towards the higher altitude owing to the environment changes. The sensitivity index in relation to the environment changes has been estimated highest to the Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand. In Himachal alone, more than 50% change has been observed in the forest grid of the state. If, the situations remain the same for a decade the minimum temperature may jump up to to 5 degrees Celsius.

    Many Species in Danger

Prof. Ravindaran admits that many species may extinct with passage of time. The cement industry is contributing most in affecting the environment. The cement making process involves the maximum release of carbon dioxide whereas no measures or techniques for its absorption are being used. On the other hand, the developed countries are adopting many such techniques which are highly needed being the dire need of time.

    Forestry as a Solution

The expected effects can be done away with the changes in the forest planning and development of the Himalayan region. Policy and management work plan may be adopted for saving the forest area in the region. However, the mass involvement is also required for the forest conservation beside the effective government policies in this end.
