4.(a) Explain how Hamming Code is useful in detecting and correcting 1-bit errors with a suitable example.
(b) Explain the function of I-frame, S-frame and U-frame in HDLC protocol.

5.(a) Explain the working of IEEE 802.5 bases LAN.
(b) Write a short note on High Speed LANs.

6.(a) What is CSMA/CD? Explain how collisions are detected.
(b) Write a short note on ‘Collision-free’ protocols.

Section- D

7.(a) What is the need for Routing? Explain shortest path routing algorithm.
(b) Explain the working of ‘Token-Bucket’ algorithm.

8.(a) Write a short note on internet working.
(b) Write a short note on Transport services.

Section- E

9.Attempt all the parts:

(a) What is a Distributed System?
(b) Define the term ‘Maximum Data Rate’ for a noisy channel.
(c) What is ‘stop-and-wait’ protocol?
(d) What is CRC? How is it useful?
(e) Data link protocols always put the CRC in a trailer rather than in a header. Why?
(f) Define the term ‘P-persistent CSMA’?
(g) What is QOS?
(h) What is ‘Manchester Encoding’?
(i) What do you mean by ‘Fragmentation’?
(j) What is UDP? For which applications it is used?
