B.Tech VIIth Semester Examination, Natural Language Processing,HPU, December 2008

Section-A

1.(a) What are the various issues in natural language processing? Explain.
(b) How the natural language processing is different from processing of high level languages?

2.Discuss the following:
(a)The logical form.
(b)Organization of NLP system.

Section- B

3.Describe the following:
(a)Context free rules and trees.
(b)Ambiguous grammar.

4.Discuss how would you augment a parser to deal with input that may be incorrect, such as a spelling error or nonrecognition.

Section- C

5.Explain with example how the features are added to the RTN to produce ATN.

6.What are the common techniques used for parsing of natural language structures? Explain with example.

Section- D

7.Write a note on Semantic grammar and Template matching.

8.What are the issues in the Speech Recognition Systems? Discuss with example. Give the applications of speech recognition system also.

Section- E

9. Attempt all the questions:
(a) What is the need of natural language generation system?
(b) How do the grammars help in the processing of the natural languages?
(c) Describe ontology.
(d) What do you understand by N-grams?
(e) Describe the properties of unification.
(f) Differentiate between syntax and semantics of languages.
(g) How the information extraction is different than data extraction.
(h) Explain HMMs.
