P.K. Dhumal’s Government Working for Common Man Welfare

Himachal Pradesh government has been showing a great progress under the leadership of Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal. Several programmes and schemes initiated by Prof. Dhumal for the welfare of common man has benefited the society very much and given a good recognition to the state in the nation.

Himachal is not only famous for its beautiful environment and fantastic climate but it is also one of the most progressive states in the country. Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal’s sincere efforts has made it possible. Working at the roots and considering the welfare of the common man as the first priority have been some secrets of his success. Providing facilities and sincere concern to the problems of poor and downtrodden people of the state has always been prioritized by Dhumal’s government.

List of some highly appreciable schemes and works initiated during the reign of Dhumal’s government are as follows:

1. Looking into the pitiable conditions of the old, handicapped and widows of the state, Dhumal’s government has enhanced the Social Security Pension Scheme from Rs. 200 to Rs. 330 per month giving a direct increment of Rs. 130. About two and a half lakh eligible aged, physically handicapped and widows have been benefited from this scheme.

2. Maximum percentage of illiterate and poor class of Himachal can be seen working on daily wages. Looking into the inflation in the market, Dhumal’s government raised the daily wages amount from Rs. 75 to Rs. 110. By doing so, each wager will be benefited by Rs. 12, 775 annually.

3. The people who have been working on daily wages and contracts for the past eight years that is till 31 March, 2009 have all been regularized.

4. Dhumal’s government has given a due concern to provide relief to the women of poor families. The insurance money under Matri Shakti Bima Yojna has been increased by four times to benefit the women of poor families.

5. Since maximum percentage of Himachal is rural and resides in villages, their source of income is very less. About 2.98 lac families lie below poverty line (BPL). Dhumal’s government has given a Health Insurance Cover to all these families.

6. Minimum income limit under Creamy Layer enhanced from 2.50 lac to Rs. 4.50 lac to benefit the youth of OBC(Of Backward Class) families.

7. As there has been a great surge in the prices of the food items, it became very difficult for the ordinary men to afford such expensive items. Looking into this matter, Dhumal’s government took the initiative and spent a sum of Rs. 132 crore in giving cheap and subsidized ration to all the people in the state who have the ration cards.

8. It has been decided that no fees will be charged from the below poverty line families for getting any information under Right to Information Act (RTI).
