Major Sources of Income in Bilaspur,Himachal Pradesh

Main source of Economy in Bilaspur:

1.Agriculture:

It is one of the major source of income for the people of Bilaspur district. The farmer of district Bilaspur cultivate food crops as well as cash crops.

Main Food crops of Bilaspur:

a. Wheat: This is cultivated in the month of November and harvested in the month of April or May.

b. Maize: It is cultivated in the month of June or July. This crop is harvested in the month of October.

c.Rice: This crop is cultivated in the rainy season.

Main cash crops of Bilaspur:

a.Sugarcane.
b.Mustard.
c.Gram
d.Ginger

In the recent time production of Mangoes has become one of the major source of economy for the people of Bilaspur. Bilaspur district is one of the largest producers of Mangoes in the Himachal Pradesh.

2.Fishery in Bilaspur:

Fishery is other major source of income for the people in Bilaspur district. A fish hatchery is being set up in Deoli of Bilaspur district. Deoli farm was set up on Govind Sagar Lake in the year 1961-62. Deoli farm of Bilaspur district is one the largest fish breeding farm in Asia.
The fishes from this farm are also exported to other states of India.

3.Government Jobs in Bilaspur:

Most of the people of Bilaspur district are in government sectors viz. Education department, Military , Police department etc. At least one member of each family is government employee.

4.Electricity Generation in Bilaspur:

Electricity generation is also a major constituent in the economic growth of Bilaspur district. Bhakra Dam in Bilaspur , which is the Asia’s highest dam generate thousand of megawatts of electricity which is supplied to many other states such as Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan. Bhakra Dam power plant has provided employment to the people of Bilaspur district.

5.Industries in Bilaspur:

ACC cement factory located in Barmana is one the largest industrial project of Bilaspur district. It has generated jobs for thousands of youths directly as well as indirectly.

6.Dairy Farming in Bilaspur:

Dairy farming also contributes in the growth of district Bilaspur. People tame animals for the production milk, butter, curd etc. Milk and products produced from it are sold by the people of Bilaspur district to earn income.
