Hamirpur, the smallest district in HimachalPradesh is neverthless small in education, culture and customs.Distrct Hamirpur was established by Raja Hamir.To keep the memories of Raja Hamir alive,"Hamir Utsav" is celebrated every year in Hamirpur. Hamir Utsav is not about only fun and joy but it tells about the feelings,respect,determination of the people towards their king.So if you love to see utsavs then you must see "Hamir Utsav". Hamir Utsav is held in first week of November every year.In Hamir Utsav many cultural,dramatic programs and exhibitions are organized. People also enjoy these programs on their local TV channel.
Hamirpur is not a very big province.Geographically hamirpur is not so large. Even then Hamirpur is considered as most famous district of Himachal Pradesh.The very first thing about Hamirpur is about its literacy rate. Hamirpur ranks first in literacy rate among twelve districts of Himachal Pradesh. Hamirpur is generally known for its elite technical and educational institutes which include NIT Hamirpur , Govt. polytechniqe college Badu(Hamirpur), Neta Ji Subhash Chandra Bose PG College(Hamirpur),Him Academy Public School(HAPS)(Hamirpur), Kendriya Vidyalaya(Hamirpur), National Institute of Fashion Designing(NIFD),DAV Public School Salasi, Sai Institute of Air Hostess Hamirpur,Gautam Girls College near bus stand Hamirpur and many more.All these institutes bring great pride for Hamirpur.
It is a matter of great pride that our present Honourable Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Prof. Prm Kumar Dhumal Dhumal also belongs to Hamirpur. The President of Himachal pradesh Cricket Association, Mr. Anurag Thakur also belongs to Hamirpur. Internationally renowned shooter Mr. Vijay Kumar, gold medalist in Commonwealth Games also belongs to Hamirpur. Present Education Minister of Himachal pradesh Mr. I.D. Dhiman also of Hamirpur. The famous Indian cricketer Madan Lal also belongs to Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh.
So many small and big temples are out there in the city.But the most popular among of them is the temple of "Deott Sidh".According to a religious tale there lived an angle and a devil.The name of devil was DEOTT and angle was SIDH.People have been worshiping both of these separately for many years.People offer bali of a male goat to Deott and rote to Sidh. Deott Sidh is approximately 40KM away from hamirpur.The devotees from different places like Punjab,Hariyana comes here every year.This is the most famous temple of district Hamirpur. People come here to make there their whishes come true.
