Himachalis bringing laurels to the state

Himachal people have been excelling in various fields and bringing laurels to the state. Some do well as sportspersons, some achieve excellence in academics and many die on the front for the nation. Recently few faces from Himachal were in news for their marvelous achievements as mentioned below:

1.INIFD in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh is one of famous fashion designing institutes in India. This time three students from INIFD have shown excellence in their artistic and fashion skills, that they have been selected for the prestigious Lakme Fashion Week, 2010. The three selected candidates are, Sukhwant, Asha and Shahwahkhan.

2. Recently 18th National Wushu competition was held in Ranchi, Jharkhand. It is a matter of great pride to Himachalis that Sanjay Yadav from Mandi district of Himachal fetched the gold medal in this 18th National Wushu Competition. Yadav defeated Vijay Kumatr of Delhi in 75-kilogram weight category.

3. One of the toughest exams in India, Common Admission Test (CAT) was held in the month of December 2009. Graduates from all over India give this examination with full preparation to enter into famous Indian Institute of Managements (IIM’s). A native of Shimla, Sachit Handa. made the Himachal proud by ranking among the top 20 students in India in CAT Examination. Sachita Handa ranks first in Himachal. Currently Sachita Handa is a final year student of Electronics and Communication Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Bhopal. Sachit Handa scored astonishing 99.99% in the CAT examination. This excellent performance of Sachit Handa made him get the interview call from IIM Ahemdabad, one of the top IIM’s in the nation.

4. During 2005-06 Dr. Sandeep Khemta working as a surgeon in Animal Husbandry Department in Solan district, made a valuable research on a vaccine for the treatment of breast cancer in dogs. For this valuable research of Dr. Khemta he was given a gold medal and cash prize by Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareily.
