General information about Himachal Pradesh

1. Shimla is the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Himachal Day is celebrated on 25th January of every year. Himachal Pradesh got the statehood on 25th January 1971.

2. The main languages spoken in Himachal Pradesh are Hindi and Pahari.

3. In Himachal Pradesh there are total 12 districts viz. Shimla, Solan, Una, Kangra, Bilaspur, Kullu, Hamirpur, Lahual –Spiti, Sirmour, Mandi, Chamba and Kinnaur.

4. The total area of Himachal Pradesh is 55,673 square km. Lahaul-Spiti is the largest district of Himachal Pradesh with total area of 13,835 sq. km while district Hamirpur is the smallest district of Himachal Pradesh according to area with total area of 1,118 sq. km.

5. The total population of Himachal Pradesh according to 2001 census is 60, 77,900. District Kangra of Himachal Pradesh is the most populated. The total population of Kangra according to 2001 census is 13,39,030. Lahaul-Spiti is the least populated district of Himachal Pradesh according to 2001 census with population of 33, 224 people.

6. The density of people in Himachal Pradesh according to 2001 census is 109 people per square km. Hamirpur is the most dense district of Himachal Pradesh with 369 people per square km, while Lahaul- Spiti is the least dense district
of Himachal Pradesh with 2 people per square km.

7. Sex Ratio in Himachal Pradesh according to 2001 census is 970 females on per 1000 males. Sex ratio is highest in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh with 1099 females on per 1000 males while sex ratio is minimum in Lahaul- Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh with 802 females on per 1000 males.
