St. John Church in Dharamshala- One of the Oldest Churches in North India.

Lying in vicinity of the nature in beautiful Dharamshala is the St. John's Church. St. John's Church is popularly known as the 'Church in Wilderness' as the area is uninhabited, completely surrounded by tall Deodar trees and left in its natural condition. St. John's Church is at a distance of just few kilometers from Dharamshala (Upper Dharamshala) and about 4-5 kms from the famous 'Peace of Mind Spot', Mcleodganj. The surrounding area around the St. John's Church is completely shadowed by tall Deodar trees giving it a fantastic appearance. Have a look at the fantastic St. John's Church:

St. John's Church in Dharamshala is one of the oldest Cathedrals in North India. St. John's Church was built in the year 1852 and is known for its unique gothic character. The church is also famous for its magnificent architecture and stained glass windows. Just near to St. John's Church is the memorial of Lord James Bruce. Lord James Bruce who after serving as Governor of Jamaica, Governor General of Canada, High Commissioner and Ambassador to China became the Viceroy and Governor General of India. Lord James Bruce died in 1863 and was buried near St. Johns Church in Dharamshala. The beautiful memorial was built in his memory by his widow wife Mary Lousia. There are many other graves outside the St. John's church where many Britishers of that period have been buried. Still their names are engraved there. People visiting Mcleodganj often visit this fantastic church and get to know a lot about British history in India.
