It is believed that when one of the severed feet of Goddess Sati, fell in Chintpurni region of Himachal, it gave birth to this holy shrine in Chintpurni. Since then it became one of the Shakti Peeths in india. Hundreds of years back, the goddess used to reside in a small temple in the form of small 'Pindi'. In the 15th century, a beautiful temple was built here in Chintpurni and 'Pindi' of Goddess was established.Chintpurni temple is dedicated to 'Chinnimastika Devi' ,that is, The Goddess Without Head. A small 'pindi' of the Godess is located inside the temple which is worshipped by the people and it was built in early 15th century.
