The principle township of Kangra is a fascinating place of Himachal Pradesh is Dharamshala. To begin with,
Dharamshala is spread over a height difference of 450 meters.
The upper and lower part of the towns is poised on a spur of the Dhauladhar Mountains, which surrounded Dharamshala on three sides, is a majestic backdrop.
Dense pine forest carpets the hill sides, making the road between the twin towns a delight to travel on.
This is a charming town with its bungalows tucked into conifer forests.
Kangra valley is known for its numerous Hindu temples like Jawalamukhi and Baijnath
yet another town amid forested hillsides in Palampur where the industry of tea and sericulture has mushroomed.
The upper town, with the suburbs of McLeod Ganj and Forsyte Ganj, retains the British flavors so peculiar to the towns of Himachal Pradesh. Here you will find the nostalgic Church of St. John of the wilderness. Within lies buried Lord Elgin, who chooses to remain the Dharamshala that he loved.
Dharamshala is the home of the Tibetan leader, Dalai Lama
and his government in exile. Close to the snowlines, the towns offer interesting trekking possibilities and excursions.
