Introduction to Chamunda Devi Temple in Kangra:

Chamunda Devi Temple located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh is included among the 51 Shakti Peeths of India. The place Chamundaji is siatuted at a height of 1000 metres above the sea level and rests in the lap of snow capped sky touching Dhauladhar ranges. Chamunda Devi temple is just 55 kms from the famous Jwalaji temple which is another Shakti Peeth. Chamunda Devi Temple is situated on the bank of river Baner. River Baner is also known as Banganga and its water have been converged into man made ghat so that devotes coming from various part of the country to Chamundaji can take holy dip in the water.

The temple in Chamundaji is dedicated to warring goddess Chamunda Devi. The main temple of Chamundaji has the beautiful idol of Chamunda Devi. Just few metres from Chamunda Devi Temple there is a temple of Lord Nandikeshwar, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Various idols of Lord Shiva and other deities exist in the Nandikeshwar temple.

Main attractions in Chamunda Devi Temple in Kangra is during the Navaratra days, that is, in March-April and September-October when thousands of devotees come and visit this temple. One can also visit a small zoo located in Gopalpur at a distance of 12 kms from Chamunda Devi temple. The zoo at Gopalpur birds has a good collection of rare Himalayan birds and animals.
