History of kangra Fort. It is the only fort which could not be conquered. Ancient Kangra Fort is situated near Kangra Town in Himachal Pradesh

Kangra Fort is one of the oldest forts in the country. It was built by the Royal katoch Kings of kangra.

Kangra Fort has a long history and many rulers tried to conquer it. Mahmud Ghazini in 1009, Mohammad Tuglak in 1337, Feroz Tuglak in 1365.

Akbar could not succeed in capturing the fort. However Jahangir succeeded in capturing the Kangra Fort in 1619.

At the end of eighteenth century in 1789 Raja Sansar Chand fulfilled his dream by capturing back the Kangra Fort of his ancestors.

The Kangra Fort was handed over to Maharaja Ranjeet Singh in 1809 as he assisted Raja sansar Chand in expelling the Gurkhas who had invaded and laid seige of the fort.

After the death of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh the fort came under control of British.

In 1905 there was a strong earthquake in Kangra district killing thousands of people. The quake also destroyed the fort. The Kangra fort is now in the form of ruins.

Inside the Kangra fort is the temple of Family Goddess of Katochs. There is one more temple inside the fort.

The Kangra fort still looks amazing and wonderful. Before the entrance there is a meuseum with history of Kangra Fort.
