If the credit of bringing Himachal Pradesh as a state on India's map goes to anybody, then he is none other than the first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar. His role and efforts in keeping the Pahari culture alive and giving recognition to Himachal are beyond praise. Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar was born on August 4th, 1906 in a small village called Chanhalag in tehsil Pachhad of Sirmour district, Himachal Pradesh.

Educational Career of Dr. Y.S. Parmar:

1. Dr. Y.S. Parmar completed his Bachelor in Arts (B.A) in the year 1926 from Foreman Christian College in Lahore. He was just 20 years old when he completed his B.A.

2. In the year 1928 Dr. Y.S. Parmar completed his Masters in Arts (M.A.) from Kennig College in Lucknow.

3. In 1944 Dr. Y.S Parmar completed his L.L.B.

4. Dr. Y.S. Parmar also successfully finished his Ph.D in History from Lucknow University.

Service and Political Career of Dr. Y.S. Parmar:

1. Dr. Y.S. Parmar remained as the member of Theosophical Society from 1929 to 1930.

2. Dr. Y.S. Parmar worked as the Sub-Judge and Magistrate (first class) of Sirmour from 1930 to 1937.

3. From 1937to 1941 Dr. Y.S. Parmar worked as the District and Session Judge.

4. In the year 1943-46 Dr. Y.S. Parmar remained as the Secretary of Sirmour Association.

5. From 1946-47 Dr. Y.S. Parmar remained as the 'Pradhan' of Himachal State Council.

6. From 1947-48 Dr. Y.S. Parmar worked as the member of Grouping and Amalgamation Committee All India People and Co-ordinator of Suket Revolution.

7. From the year 1948 to 1952 Dr. Y.S. Parmar remained as the Member secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Chief Commissioner Advisory Council.

8. Dr. Y.S. Parmar remained as the President of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee from the year 1948 to 1964.

9. Dr. Y.S. Parmar became the first Chief Minsiter of Himachal Pradesh in the year 1952 and his tenure continued up to 1956.

10. In the year 1957 Dr. Y.S. Parmar became the Member of Parliament.

11. From 1963-1967 Dr. Y.S. Parmar became the Chirf Minister of Himachal Pradesh for the second time.
