Beginning Days of Himachal Pradesh University

Himachal Pradesh University came into being on 1st July 1970. In the beginning Himachal Pradesh University offered the following post graduate courses: English, Himdi Ecnomics, Political Science, Sanskrit and History. But later on,another courses were started by Himachal Pradesh University: M.Ed, B.Ed (non-medical) M.A. Sociology, Geography, M.com, Public Administration, Law and LLM, MBA, DCA, MCA,DMM and DPM. M.Phil in Hindi, Sanskrit, English, History, Economics, Political science, Sociology, Geography, Commerce and Science subjects. M.Sc in Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Bio-Science and Diploma in German, French and Russian.

Himachal Pradesh doing a pioneer service to cater for students who does not attend their classes regularly, University started a Correspondence course, for the help of students studying at home. Correspondence courses started in the same year 1971 in the presence of first director of HPU Dr. P.K.Pandey. In the beginning, the courses of Correspondence were M.A in Hindi, Political Science, Sanskrit, Economics, History, English and M.Com, B.Ed Arts and under graduate courses in the subject of Hindi, Political Science, Economics, English, Sanskrit, History and Sociology, After 1971 B.Ed in Arts course was discontinued.

The name of Correspondence course was changed in 1995 to International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL)
