Soon Spiti will become winter sports destination!

Spiti valley of tribal district, Lahaul and Spiti has a unique image in Himachal Pradesh. The Spiti valley is mostly inhabited by Tibetan Buddhists. The landscape views in Spiti valley are eye catching. Spiti valley is famous for various monasteries like Tabo monastery. Key Gompa in Spiti valley is worth place to get acquainted with Buddhist artifacts and literature. Kibber village located in Spiti valley which is the highest motorable village in the world adds to the uniqueness of Spiti valley.

Now adding to the popularity, Spiti valley will soon become a destination for winter sports. Union Sports Minister Mr. M.S. Gill has sanctioned a sum of Rs. 19.5 lakhs for providing facilities for winter sports in Spiti valley. In the year 1961-63 M.S. Gill remained as the Deputy Commissioner of Lahaul and Spiti when it was under Punjab. It is also alleged that M.S. Gil has sanctioned Rs. 15 lakhs to ADC Spiti for buying the equipments for winter sports so that local people can begin skiing and other winter sports in this coming winter.

This move to make Spiti valley a venue for winter sports is a fantastic step to attract more tourism in Himachal Pradesh. As such people loving winter and adventurous sports will definitely visit Spiti during winter season.
