Lieutenant Ankita is the first woman from Himachal selected in the Army Aviation Core. Ankita became Lieutenant after 11 months of training from OTA Chennai. After training, Ankita has been selected for Army Aviation core. According to her parents Smt. Urmil Thakur and Sh. Ashok Jaswal , it was her childhood dream to join the Indian Army.

Ankita completed her 12th from Army School Yol and did her graduation from Government College Dharamshala. During her education in college Ankita joined NCC and received NCC 'C' certificate. Ankita also nominated for Republic Day Parade from Himachal Pradesh in the year 2008. In the year 2009 she qualified the CDS examination and did 11 months from OTA (Officer Training Academy) Chennai.
