Ph.D. Entrance Examination for the first time by Himachal Pradesh University on 10th Oct, 2010

According to the instruction by Union Grant Commission (UGC), Himachal Pradesh University is going to conduct an Entrance Examination for Ph.D. for very first in Himachal Pradesh on October 10th, 2010. Earlier to this, Ph.D. seats were offered to the students on merit basis but now entrance exam is being conducted. The Entrance Examination for Ph.D. by HPU will consist of written examination of 80 marks and thereafter an interview of 20 marks.

There are 84 seats in Ph.D. in HPU under various subjects in HPU for 2010. However, there are many such subjects in which no seats are available to pursue Ph.D. and hence students will have to refrain themselves from doing Ph.D. in those subjects. HPU has in total 26 subjects for Ph.D. out of which 10 subjects have no seats for Ph.D. Earlier, 10 students could pursue research process for Ph.D. under one professor but according to new UGC rules only 8 students can now be under one professor. Moreover, it has become compulsory now for all students pursuing Ph.D. to show the progress report of their work within every six months.

1. Chemistry- 7 seats.
2. Psychology- 2 seats.
3. Zoology- 4 seats.
4. Political Science- 4 seats.
5. Physics- 3 seats.
6. English- 3 seats.
7. Geography- 2 seats.
8. Hindi- 5 seats.
9. Public Administration- 6 seats.
10. Mathematics- 10 seats.
11. Sanskrit- 3 seats.
12. Commerce- 9 seats.
13. History- 6 seats.
14. Sociology- 3 seats.
15. Economics- 8 seats
16. 9 other seats.
