Vijay Kumar from Hamirpur Wins Gold Medal in Commonwealth Games, 2010

Making the 'Land of Gods', Himachal proud in the field of Commonwealth Games, 2010 is the Vijay Kumar from Hamirpur who won the gold medal in 25m Rapid Fire Pistol (pairs) event on 7th October, 2010. The news has spread like a fire of happiness throughout Himachal. Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal has congratulated the family members of Vijay Kumar for his remarkable achievement in Commonwealth Games, 2010.

Vijay Kumar belongs to the village Harsaur of tehsil Barsar in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh. Vijay Kumar was born on 19th August, 1985 and just at the age of 25 years, Vijay Kumar clinched the gold medal in Commonwealth Games, 2010. In the year 2001, Vijay Kumar entered into Indian army and within short span of 9 years he was promoted to Subedar level. After joining Indian army his interest in shooting grew and started showing keen interest in this sport. Till now Vijay Kumar has won 104 medals in this sport at various national and international events.

Vijay Kumar has also been awarded with the prestigious Arjuna Award by Pratibha Devi Singh Patil on 29th August, 2007 for his fantastic achievements in shooting.
