      International Kullu Dussehra Festival

International Kullu Dussehra Festival is celebrated for a week from Dussehra day. 2010 Kullu Dussehra was inaugrated by Governer of Himachal Pradesh Urmila Singh on 17th October. The Governor then participated in the famous Rath Yatra of Lord Raghunath at the historical Dhalpur grounds in Kullu.

Kullu Dussehra, famous in India and abroad is being organised in this Hill Town since 1960 in a very traditional manner promoting the religious tourism. In this week long festival we can see participation from the cultural troupes from all parts of the country and from abroad. Kullu Dussehra is also celebrated as Folk Dance festival with groups performing from Himachal and other parts of the country.

Another highlight of Kullu Dussehra is that we do not see effigies of Ravan, Kumbhkaran and Meghnath. Only Lord Ram is worshiped.

Kullu Dushehra commences on Vijaydashmi every year with the arrival of Hidimba Goddess from Manali. Hundreds of Deities who are worshiped in various temples in the Kullu Valley also arrive here to pay respect to Lord Ragunath. The attendents bring the deities in procession and the Deities are decorated colorfully. Lord Raghunath arrives from Sultanpur Temple in Kullu on a chariot that is pulled by hundreds of devotees. On the arrival all the deities also pay homage to Lord Raghunath.

The final day of Kullu Dushehra is to bid goodbye to Lord Ram. For this grass is being burn't on thebanks of river Beas. All the devotees and deities then bid goodbye to the Lord and promise to see him next year. The local deities then return to their respective temples along with their attendants
