Paonta Sahib - The Holy Town
Paonta Sahib is the Holy and sacred Town in Himachal Pradesh especially for the Sikh community. Paonta Sahib was built in the memory of the 10th Guru of Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh. The road to Paonta Sahib passes through Sataun and follows river Giri along the panoramic and beautiful scenery.
Paonta Sahib is located on the banks of river Yamuna and is also known for the manufacturing units of major companies of India. Thus Paonta Sahib is a bustling township in Himachal Pradesh with growing industries. Paonta Sahib is considered as one of the sacred holy places by Sikhs.
The small town of Paonta Sahib in Himachal has special memories of the 10th Guru of Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh. There is a majestic Gurudwara in the memory of the 10th Guru, Guru Govind Singh. It is believed that the name Paonta Sahib is derived from Paonta that means foot. It is because Guru Govind Singh set his foot on this place or there is an another story according to which, he lost an ornament which he was wearing on his foot called "Paonta" while taking in the river Yamuna.
Paonta Sahib was once a princely state and now it surrounds the ruins of this old capital of a princely state.

By Road: Paonta Sahib is well connected by road from all the main cities of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal. It is just 45 km from Nahan HRTC has frequent service connecting Nahan and Paonta Sahib. Paonta Sahib is also connected from other cities like Dehra Dun, Haridwar (117 km) and Shimla (180 km), Chandigarh and Delhi.
Situated on NH 72 that connects Chandigarh and Dehradun.
By Train: The nearest Railway stations from Paonta Sahib are Dehradun 45 Kms and Yamunanagar 55 Kms.
