About Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh

Chamba district is situated in the very hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh. It is located at the altitude of 2000 to 2100 meters. Chamba district covers the area of Himachal Pradesh is 6528 square kilometers. The population of the Chamba district is 460,499 (2001). The climate of the Chamba district is semi tropical to semi arctic. The boundary of the Chamba district is attached with the Jammu Kashmir and very small area of Chamba district is attached with Pakistan boundary. Chamba district is known for its various temples and historic sites and also known for its art and craft. The Chamba district is found by king Sahil in 920A.D. There is 270 Gram Panchatyas in Chamba district. There are many famous temples in Chamba district. They are Laxmi Narayan Temple, Chamunda Devi Temple, Vajreshvari Temple, Bansi Gopal Temple and Manimahesh Temple. Folk dance is the major dance of Chamba district. There are many famous places in Chamba district. They are Bharmour, Dalhousie and Banikhet. From June to August is the perfect time to visit here.

Dalhousie: Dalhousie is the famous town of Chamba district. It is famous in al over Himachal Pradesh. It is the small famous hill station of Himachal Pradesh. It is established a town in 1854 and its covers the area of 14 square kilometers. It is situated in the altitude of 6000 to 9000 feet above sea level. The peak tourist season of Dalhousie is May to September. Dalhousie is the gate way of Chamba district. It is situated in Pangi valley. There are 84 ancient temples located in Dalhousie. The climate of the Dalhousie is very affective during winter season. The temperature came out to freezing point in winter season.

Bharmour: Bharmour is the tourism town of Chamba district. It is located in very picturesque location. In earlier times Bharmour was the capital of Chamba rural. The all over Bharmour is covered by big lush green mountains. Chaurasia Mata temple is the famous temple of Bharmour. This temple is built by the Shikhara style. This temple is so beautiful and very attractive.

Khajjiar: Khajjiar is the other small town of Chamba district. Khajjiar is also called India's Switzerland. Khajji Nag is the famous temple of Khajjiar and it is made in 12th century. In the wall of this temple you can see the pictures and statue of five Pandavs. These statuses are made by wood. The climate of the Khajjiar is same to the temperature of Dalhousie. In winter season there is a heavy rainfall dropped in Khajjiar.

Banikhet: Banikhet is one of the most beautiful places of Himachal Pradesh. Banikhet is located in seven kilometers from Dalhousie. It is a small town. Banikhet is situated in Dhauladhars range at the altitude of 5980 feet from sea level. Nag temple is the famous temple of Banikhet which is located in Padhar Maidan. The Nag temple is also known as small stadium. This Nag temple is 150 years old. There is a hydro project in Banikhet. It is located in the center of between Pathankot to Chamba.
