Panchayat Elections in Himachal (PRI Polls)
The crucial Panchayati Raj and Urban Local Bodies elections in Himachal commences on December 28.
The significance of the Panchayat Elections is crucial because both BJP and Congress are counting these elections as a precursor to the 2012 assembly elections.
The elections will be held for a fresh term of 5 years for the 3038 panchayats, 75 Block Samithis and 12 Zila Parishads.
The highlighting point of this year's election is that highest-ever nominations have been received. 90,471 candidates have filed their nominations for the elections.
The Polling will be held in three phases, December 28th and 30th 2010 and January 1 2011. There are 27,440 posts at stake in 3,195 panchayats.
7,050 applications have been filed for block development committee's (BDC) 1651 posts.
In these elections approximately 46.11 lakh voters would exercise their franchise and vote for 3,195 panchayats, out of a total of 3,243 gram panchayats , 75 out of 77 block samitis and 11 out of 12 zila parishads in Himachal Pradesh
