Tourist Attractions - Sujanpur Tira in Himachal
Sujanpur Tira is a small but beautiful town located around 24 km from Hamirpur. Sujanpur is situated on the banks of River Beas close to the district border of Kangra. Sujanpur Tira is an historical town of Himachal and is also famous for the fort of Sujanpur.
Sujanpur Fort was built by Katoch Kings and the place was once the capital of Katoch Dynasty. The Sujanpur Tira fort was built in the year 1758 by Raja Abhaya Chand of Kangra.
During the early 19th century Sujanpur Tira used to be the home of the famous Raja Sansar Chand. Sansar Chand Katoch was a renowned patron of the Kangra School of miniature paintings.
The Sujanpur Tira fort is an example of Kangra art and miniature paintings. There is a Barahdari Hall' in Sujanpur Tira Fort where Raja Sansar Chand used to hold court. The fort also boasts of some shrines and exceptional wall paintings.
Sujanpur Tira is also renowned all over Himachal for its huge ground (Chaugan). The famous Annual Holi fair is organized and being held every year for 3-4 days in this huge ground. Apart from this the Chaugan is also used for organizing cultural events and sport activities.
Sujanpur is also known for its Sainik School. Students from all over Himachal study in this boarding school.
Sujanpur Tira is also known for its religious importance. Thousands of People from the neighboring districts visit Narbadeshwar Temple, Gauri Shankar Temple and Murli Manohar temple in Sujanpur.
