The famous Chamunda Mata Temple is situated at an altitude of 1000 m above sea-level in Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh near Dharamshala. Chamunda Devi was assigned the mission to eliminate the demons Chanda and Munda. It is believed that Chamunda emerged as Chandika from an eyebrow of goddess Ambika. Chandika as a result completed her mission of destroying the two demons and she presented the heads of Chanda and Munda in front of Ambika., The Goddess Ambika was very happy with the act of Chamunda Devi and in reward she named the city as Chamunda. Thereafter the temple of Chamunda Devi is worshipped with that elegance and faith by all.
