      About Pragpur


      Pragpur is a Historical Town in Himachal Pradesh situated at an altitude of 2000 feet above sea level. Pragpur in Himachal Pradesh is a heritage village perfectly suited to discover the Kangra valley. Pragpur consists of numerous streams that drain into the river Beas.

      Pragpur in Kangra Himachal has number of places of historic interest apart from places of religious and cultural importance. Pragpur offers pleasant weather and climate with highly rich flora and fauna. Thus Pragpur in Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh has many surroundings that offers a perfect location for village tourism.

      Garli-Pragpur has a rare scenic and natural beauty and the ambience of the heritage zone of this town is passionately protected by the local residents. The Panchayats of the area are also actively involved in protecting the ancient buildings and structures of PragpurSeveral. Number of heritage structures is now being reinstated by local administration by using original techniques but with modern facilities to facilitate tourist.

      Places to Visit in Pragpur


      The Taal at Pragpur

      : This is an ancient pond which dates back to1868. The heritage pond or The Taal figures the core of Pragpur village. The Taal at Pragpur also serves as a recreational space for youth and aged. The Taal was built by the village brotherhood long ago known as the Nehar Committee. The enchanting Taal at Pragpur is also surrounded by numerous heritage structures. One of this old structures include the Nehar Bhawan (Approx 250 years old). Other heritage structure is Naun (around 1864), a drinking water facility by Nehar Committee; Dhuni Chand Bhardial Serai (village inn) and Radha Krishna Mandir.

      Butail Niwas at Pragpur

      : Butail Niwas is yet another ancient and marvelous peace of work in Pragpur. Butail Niwas was built over a hundred years ago by Lala Buta Mal. Buta Mal was a scion of the Chaujjar Sood clan. Butail Niwas is a unique structure because it includes six identical apartments which were built for six sons of Buta Mal.

      Nakki at Pragpur

      . Nakki is one of the entrances to the heritage village Pragpur. Nakki has a historical importance because the Reru Mal family at Pragpur provided a water point for common use, the overflow of which falls into small tanks where the village people bathed and washed.

      The Judge's Court at Pragpur

      : This unique and enthralling building was constructed in 1918. The Judge's Court is a splendid country manor designed in Indo-European tradition. The idea to make Judge's court came from Justice Sir Jai Lal. The Judge's Court stands in 12 acres of greens, and is just a short walk from the village core and the Taal.

      How to Reach Pragpur in Himachal


      Pragpur is around 60 km from Dharmshala, 40 Km from Kangra and has been notified as a Heritage Village by Himachal Pradesh Govt. in December 1997.

      Pragpur is around 175 km from Chandigarh, 25 km from Jwalaji. Number of Himachal Roadways buses ply on this route from all parts of Himachal Pradesh.

      Taxis can also be hired from Kangra and Jwalaji to reach Pragpur.
      Nearest Airport is Gaggal Airport around 40 Kms and nearest Railway station is Una around 50 Kms.
