Solan is situated on the midway of Shimla and Kalka. Solan is 315kms from Delhi, 68kms from Chandigarh 42kms from Kalka and 48kms from Solan. Solan is located 30' 05` & 31' 15` North and 76' 42` & 77' 20` East latitude. Solan district is surrounded by Shimla district in North, Ropar of Punjab and Ambala district of Haryana in South, Sirmaur in East and Bilaspur in the West. Mandi also touches Solan in North-East. The altitude of Solan varies form 300 meters to 3000 meters.

How to reach
Almost each and every part of Himachal is interconnected by roads, so is Solan. The HRTC is running busses covering almost whole State. Also private busses are available on some of the routes of the State. Solan is approached by road from Shimla and Chandigarh.
The nearest broad gauge railway station is Kalka and the nearest narrow gauge railway station is Solan itself. This railway station is connected by regular busses from the main bus stand.
The nearest airport within the State is near Shimla (Jubbarhatti) which is 68kms from Sol
