Renuka lake is situated at an altitude of 670 meters. Renuka is about 125kms from Parwanoo, 40kms from Nahan and about 50kms from Ponta Sahib.
Ranuka lake is the largest natural lake of Himachal Pradesh. The circumference of the lake is 3214 meters. The shape of the Renuksa lake is like the profile of a reclining women. The shape of Renuka is regarded as the embodiment of the Goddess Renuka.
On the feet of the lake another holy lake is there and is associated with her son the sage Parshurama.
There are temples of both Goddess Renuka and her renowned son Parshurama. The main temple dedicated to Goddess Renuka is believed to be built in 18th century.
The lake is situated in a long valley and is surrounded by thick forest. There are many colourful and beautiful fishes and other aquatic animals in the lake. A wild life sanctuary is also situated near the lake. The lake is also surrounded by some other temples. Boating facility is also available in the lake.
HPTDC is running a hotel named Renuka Ji along side the lake. Dadahu a small town about 2kms from the lake has some good hotels and rest houses of PWD and Forest Department. The accommodation here is very economical.
How to reach
The place is well connected by road. Visitors can board busses from Parwanoo, Nahan, Solan, Shimla and Ponta Sahib. Visitors can also hire a taxi from these places.
