      Tourist Spot Naggar near Kulla and Manali

      Naggar is big village situated near Kullau and Manali. The place is very beautiful and worth visiting tourist spot.


      Naggar



      Location


      Naggar is located at an altitude of 5770 feet from the sea level. The place is situated in a heavy-eyed hill on the left bank of the river Beas.

      History


      Many royal places are not present now. The Naggar was the capital of Kullu for around 1460 years under Raja Jagat Singh in the 17th century. The capital later shifted to Sultanpur from Naggar in the year 1860.


      Places to visit in Naggar


      Naggar Castle
      The castle is under the control of HPTDC. The castle was built by Raja Bhosal. The castle is being run as a hotel nowadays. The view of entire Kullu valley is very beautiful. This is the only existing castle in Kullu. The Jagti Patt, a holy block of stone is present in the castle and it is assumed that this Jagti Patt rescues the local people from the ailing effects. The castle is built up with three stories and there is a museum also in one of the galleries.

      Nicholas Roerich Art Gallery
      Nicholas was a renowned artist. He married the famous Indian actress Devika Rani and settled here at Naggar. He spent the last 20 years of his life in Naggar. The property owned by him is now converted in to an art gallery presenting his art and paintings. His painting shows the pictures of many famous places of Kullu, Manali and Naggar itself. The most famous paintings are those which show valleys and mountains covered with snow during the early evenings. There is a combined entry fee for both Art gallery and the museum. The visiting hours are from 10 AM to 5 PM. Monday is a holiday. A sale counter is also situated where visit can buy paintings and books.
      Gowri Shankar Temple
      The Lord Shiva temple is a protected monument. Many foreigners can be seen here singing shaloks in the temple wearing Indian traditional clothes.
      NishalaNishala is famous for Chamunda Bhagwati temple which situated at a distance of around 4kms from Naggar. This is the favourite location for movie makers.

      How to reach


      The place can be reached from either Kullu or from Manali. Kullu is at a distance of about 20kms and Manali is at a distance of about 22kms from Naggar. HPTDC is running busses from th Naggar from Manali. The other option is to hire a taxi either from Kullu or from Manali. Excellent bus facility is available from New Delhi via Chandigarh. The nearest railway station is Kiratpur sahib which is located at a distance of about 200kms. The The narrow gauge train runs at at distance of 130kms on Joginder Nager and Pathankot. The nearest airport is at Bhunter.

      Climate


      The climate here is pleasing except in winter when the temperature can go near to freezing point. There may be snow in winter season.

      Clothes


      Woollens for winter and light woollens or cottons are recommended for summer.

      Stay


      There is a wide range of hotels in and around Naggar. Visitors can board the hotel as per their requirements. The hotels are economic and affordable.

      Time required


      The total time required for visiting all the places in Naggar will be around 3 to 4 hours. Good food and refreshments are available.
