Baijnath temple is situated at a distance of about 15kms from Palampur in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is one of the most famous temples of the temple. Lord Shiva is worshipped here as Vaidyanath of the Physician or the Doctor.
History of Baijnath Temple
Lord Shiva is believed to be present here since 1204 AD. As per legends Ravana worshipped Lord Shiva in this temple and sacrificed his ten heads at the place marked for the same inside the temple. This is the reason the people of Baijnath do not celebrate Dusshera because they do not want Lord Shiva to get angry on them because this is the day of death of his devotee Ravana and the death of the devotee of Lord Shiva can not be celebrated at place of Lord Shiva. The temple was built up in the 9th century as per the inscriptions on the stone slabs of the temple. Later in the 19th century King Sansar renovated the temple.
About the Baijnath Temple
The temple is constructed in Shikhra style. There are very beautiful gardens and paths in the temple. The chamber of the temple is 8 square feet from inside and 18 feet from the outside with a conical crown at the roof. The statues of Nandi and Lord Hanuman are very attractive. The architecture of the temple is in Oriya style and the having a pyramid shaped roof. The temple is one of its kinds not only in Kangra but also in the state.

The temple is about 15kms from Kangra. The temple well connected from almost all major towns of the state as well as nearby states.
