Kalka Shimla Toy Train
Shimla Toy train journey is a must to be enjoyed by the tourist. It is a trek of narrow gauge train which moves from Kalka to Shimla in the morning and then back from Shilma to Kalka in the evening.
This narrow gauge train was constructed in the period of British rule. It was started by British to connect to two major cities of Delhi and Shimla. Also, this Kalka-Shimla railway is declared as the greatest narrow gauge engineering feat in India by the Guinness World record Book.
The whole journey of Kalka-Shimla train is about six hours and 95 km long. The train passes through 103 tunnels and has 20 railway stations. In every station there are snack sellers and tea sellers which allow the visitors to taste the food of Himachal Pradesh. Also foods like cutlate and chole bature are very popular and are sold in high quantity by the sellers. This trains moves through exactly 103 tunnels and each tunnels are of different lengths. One can hear the shouting and visselings of people inside the tunnels as they show their happiness. The train has at least 7 coaches which can carry 200 passengers.
The train starts from Kalka at 5:30 am in the morning. It moves slowly in a speed of 25 km per hour, this allow the passengers to enjoy every scenery of Himalayas and captures it in their camera. The train then moves through different stations and reaches Shimla at nearly 12:00 noon. The inner look of the train have glass windows which can be opened, soft cushioned chairs for passangers to sit, catering services, music system and much more. All these facilities makes the trip enjoyable.
