      Bhaijnath Temple in Himachal Pradesh

      Baijnath Temple in Kangra


      The Baijanath temple is one of the popular temples of Himachal Pradesh. This temple is also called Vaidyanath Siva Temple in Kangra. As the name itself says that this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Baijnath Temple in KangraThis temple is located in a small town Baijnath in Dhauladhar range of Himachal Pradesh. This place is 16 kms far from Palampur in Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh. Also, the main attraction of this town is the Siva temple of 13th century. The original name of this town is Kiragrama. The name was replaced by Baijnath because of the name of Siva temple.

      The Baijnah Temple is worshiped by many devotees since this temple was made in AD 1204 by two merchants named Ahuka and Manyuka. This temple indicates the architecture of North Indian temple also known as Nagara style of temples. Also, there is a Sivalinga in Baijnath Temple which is in the Svayambhu form. It is enshrined in the sanctum of the temple which is having five projections.You can find the entrance of sanctum through a large square mandapa. The whole temple is surrounded by high walls and the entrance is from the north and south of the temple. There are several images of God and Goddess on the outer wall of the temple.

      Every year thousands of people come here to get the blessings of Lord Shiva. Also, special players are organized in morning as well as in evening. Makara Sankranti, Vaisakha Sankranti, Maha Shivaratri, etc are some festivals which are celebrated here in great zeal and Splendor. Also, at the time of Maha Shivratri a five days state level function is held. Some of the ancients shrines in and around the temple also attracts many people. These include Mahakala temple complex, Mukutanath temple, etc. You can find a perfect place for Paragliding in Bir which is 10 km far from this place.


      History of Baijnath Temple in Kangra


      You can find the whole history of Bhaijnath temple on the walls of mandapa of the temple. According to our source, Kiragrama was a part of Trigarta which is a territory lying between Ravi river and Satluj river. At that time, this region was ruled by Lakshmanachandra who was a local chief. At Kiragrama, there lived two brothers named Manyuka and Ahuka who were sons merchant Siddha. These two brothers constructed this temple in the devotion of Lord Shiva. Also,k they donated a machine foe extraction of oil, a shop and some piece of land. The Rajanaka Lakshmanachandra gave some donation in the form of money and land.

      The Sivalinga present in this temple is known as Vaidyanatha. It is said that this Shivalinga was already present in the spot before the construction of temple. The shrine here has been continued worshiping for several years. In the late 18th century, the katoch king of Kangra- Sansara Chandra-II started some repairing work in this temple. On 4th of April 1905, the earthquake in Kangra caused damage to the shrine. This news was reported was reported by J. Ph. Vogel. This popular temple is now one of the popular monuments in Kangra.       Tourist Attractions in Bhaijnath Temple


      • Mahankaal Temple: This temple is situated 5 kms from Baijnath Mandir. This is another ancient temple which is visited by many people. This temple was constructed in the medival period. This temple is visited by hundreds of devotees during Saturadays of Bhadrapada.

      • Mukutnath Temple: This is another Shiv temple 8km far from Baijnath. It is believed that the first plant of Tulsi was present in the premises of this temple.

      • Khir Ganga Ghats: The holy water springs are located at the basis of Shiv Temple Baijnath. These are situated along the left river of Binwa River. Many devotees first take bath here and then worship Lord Shiva.

      • Paragliding: You can have the experience of paragliding in Himachal Pradesh in the famous paragliding spot Bil which is just 25 km far from Baijnath. Paragliding is very popular in Himachal Pradesh.

      • Mahavatar Baba Ji Meditation Centre: This scared Ashram is situated 13 kms away from Baijnath. You will find the chirpings of birds and soft chants of wind-chimes here. You will find several meditation institutes in Himachal Pradesh but this one is the best amongst them.



      How to reach Baijnath Temple


      By road:
      Baijnath is the place which lies in NH No.20 i.e. Pathankot- Chakki- Manli Highway.The nearest town is Palampur which is 16 kms far from Baijnath. The major town of Shimla is 250 kms far from this place. You can find the route time table from the official website of Himachal Pradesh.

      By railways:
      You can find the nearest railway station in Kangra. 17kms from Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh, you will find Panthankot railway station. Here, narrow gauge line train keeps running in its regular time. Ant the nearest broad gauge train is 88kms from Dhramshala in Pathankot. You will find another narrow gauge train in Shimla railway station. This train is named Kalka-Shimla Toy train. Every year thousands of people travel through this train.

      By airways
