Freedom Fighter and Personality from Kangra District


In this article you can find the famous freedom fighters and personalities of Kangra district and also find his/her details. They are participating in various fields to free our country from British. There are four person which are belongs from Kangra district.

There are many freedom fighters and great participate who take [participate to free our country from British before Independence. Here i give you the all details of these persons:-

1. Jagat Singh Pathania : He was a powerful king of Nurpur between 1619 to 1646.

2. Maharaja Sansar Chand : He was a powerful king of Katoch dynasty between 1779 to 1823. He defeated the entire rulers who were reigning over small kingdoms in Himachal Pradesh. He attack and liberated the famous Kangra fort from the clutches of the Mughal. He wished to establish a Hindu state with the help of all the rulers of Himalayan region and wanted to liberate India from foreign rule.

3. Ram Singh : He was son of Shyam Singh Pathania who was the minister of kingdom of Nurpur. He revolted against British rule in 1848. He was arrested, condemned of treason and sent to "Rangoon Jail". He died there after some time.

4. Baba Kanshi Ram: Baba Kanshi Ram was the famous personalities of Himachal Pradesh He was born on July 11, 1882 at Dehra Gopipur in Kangra district. He was an active freedom fighter. He was sent to prison for two years along with Ajit Singh. Lala Hardyal. He was a follower of Gandhian Philosophy. He was conferred with a new name "Pahari Gandhi" by Jawahar Lal Nehru in Gadiar Wala conference. He always wore black clothes in order to oppose British rule.

5. Chanderdhar Sharma Guleri : He was born at Haripur in Guler. He was a renowned story writer.

6. Sobha Singh : He was born on 26 Nov. 1901 in Gurdaspur. He spent his whole life as Andretta in Kangra. He was a famous painter and has a world famous, "Sobha Singh art gallery" at Andretta near Palampur.

7. Bakshi Partap Singh : He was born on October 20th, 1912 at Chadiyar in Kangra district. He joined "Indian National army" in 1942. He was conferred with the little 'Shatru Nash' for his violent nature and he was killing many English people.

8. Mehar Chand Mahajan : He was born on 23 Dec. 1889 at Nagrota in Kangra. He was the first Himachali to become Chief Justice of India.

9. Mittar Sen : Mittar Sen was born on 29 Dec. 1895 at Tota Rani. He wrote many poems, essays and drama in Nepali language. He was a famous Nepali lyricist and translator. He carried out the 'Freedom Movement' in Dharamshala and surroundings area.
During First World War, he spent five years in Central Europe and America. He devoted last year of his life to music, drama and social works. Today his birth place is 'Tota Rani' has become a learning center of Nepali Literature and other language.
