      Himachal Pradesh University is also known as HPU popularly. It was established in Jully 1962 as Panjab University Evening College and in 1976-77 moved to its present independent
      Campus. It got status of University on 22 July 1970 by the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, under the Act 1970. The university has the following objectives:
      1. To promote awareness amongst the students and teachers and understand their social requirements and needs

      Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla

      Its campus occupies an area of about 200 acres and located at Summer Hills almost 8 km away from bus stand and railway station. The University is financed by the Government of Himachal Pradesh and the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has given the status of Grade 'B' among all the universities of India.

      1. Agro-Economic Research Centre
      One of the 12 AER Centers, Agro-Economic Research Centre (AERC) at the Himachal Pradesh University was established in December 1972 by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, with the objective of:
      To carry out research and investigations in the field of Agricultural Economics in Western Himalayan Region consisting of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. For further more details visit: http://aercshimla.org/
      2. Centre of Environmental Studies
      Environmental Studies (CES) Centre was established in 1989 at the University, in accordance with the decision of the Environmental Protection Council (EPC), Government of Himachal Pradesh with the objectives of:
      1. Establish a multidisciplinary platform for furthering research pertaining to Himalayan region.
      2. To impart environment education to students, researchers and others pertaining to knowledge and understanding of Himalayan ecology and environment manifesting bio-economic aspects
      3. To carry out detailed survey, analysis and evaluation of biodiversity
      4. Sustainable utilisation of natural resources
      5. Restoration of degraded ecosystem through eco-development approach

      3. International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL)
      In 1971, the Himachal Pradesh University start beginning, a Directorate of Correspondence Courses within a year as it got status of University. Distance education is now recognised as one of the most effective methods of instruction in all countries of the world.       4. The Institute of Integrated Himalayan Studies
      The Institute of Integrated Himalayan Studies (UGC Centre of Excellence) also known as IIHS has been set up by Himachal Pradesh University in the year 2002 with the objective of :
      To create an integrated knowledge base and evolve strategies for the development of Himalayan region, Himachal Pradesh in particular and its people through research, academic courses and service with a global perspective.
      5. Institute of Management Studies
      IMS has overhauled MBA curriculum in the light of UGC Model Curriculum released in December 2001 and the institute has its own website www.imsshimla.org.
      6. Population Research Centre
      The Population Research Centre (PRC), Shimla was established in 1989 by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla , with the objectives of:
      1. To conduct research and training programmes on population and development related issues in a broad inter-disciplinary perspective
      2. To conduct studies to evaluate and monitor ongoing health and family welfare programmes in Himachal Pradesh
      3. To promote co-operative endeavour and interaction between research scholars and institution in the field of health, population and development
      4. To undertake client specific sponsored studies / surveys on request from various agencies on consultancy basis, in the broader field of population, health and family welfare related issues in Himachal Pradesh.
      7. Pre Examination Coaching Centre For SC/ST
      The Centre was transferred to H.P. University in 1993 from Himachal Institute of Public Administration.
      8. The Institute of Vocational Studies
      In the year 1991, the Institute of Vocational Studies started a two year post graduate degree course in tourism Administration in HPU, Shimla; with the objectives of :
      1. To provide academic opportuinities to graduates for successful careers in Management services
      2. To strive for total professionalisation of human resources engaged in the business of tourism through regular academic course at post graduate level

      9. Institute of Tribal Studies & Research
      The Institute of Tribal Studies (ITS) at the Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla; vide University's Executive Council's Resolution No. 10, dated January 31, 1994. The objectives and the structure of the ITS were approved by the Executive Council in its meeting held on 12 April 1994 vide item no. 41.

      10. Centre for Australian and New Zealand Studies (Under UGC Area Study Programme)
      Established in 2007 with objesctives:
      1. To create a multi-disciplinary resource centre on Australia and New Zealand to provide information to students, researchers, teachers alike in North India. Areas which will receive special attention are: culture, history, geography, political science, economic policies, international relations--particularly the role of diasporic communities, tourism etc., ethnic diversity, issues of Indigenous People and Gender issues etc
      2. To invite (in collaboration with Australia-India Council and New Zealand High Commission) academics, writers, artists, scientists, administrators, etc for lectures, workshops, etc on Australia and New Zealand
      3. To promote research at M. Phil and Ph.D. level
      4. To introduce teaching of Australian and New Zealand studies initially as part of MA and M. Phil courses, and gradually as the resources build up complete courses on Australian and New Zealand Studies will be offered

      Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh


      The College of Agriculture was established in May, 1966. It is an ISO 9001:2008 certified institution and it gained a status of University on 1st November, 1978. Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya is now popularly known as Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya Palampur -176 062 (HP); ACT 1986 (ACT NO. 4 OF 1987).       Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry Nauni Distt. Solan, Himachal Pradesh


      It was established in 1962 as Himachal Agricultural College and Research Institute, Solan with its affiliation to Panjab University, Chandigarh. It became Agriculture Complex of HPU, Shimla in July, 1971, and thereafter its affiliation changed to HPU. Soon in 1976 and 1978, it became a Horticulture Complex of HPU and Himacahal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya (HPKV), Palampur, respectively. On December, 1985 this complex got the recognition of University after the name of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar (the frst Chief Minister of the State).
