      Jakhu Hill in Shimla


      Jakhu Hill is one of the popular tourist spots in Shimla. It is located just 2 kms far from the Ridge, at an altitude of 2500m. This is the highest peak of Shimla which provides a beautiful picturesque view for the tourists. Jakhu Hill There is a Hanuman temple in Jakhu Hill where majority of the monkeys of Shimla resides. This temple is situated at the top of the Jakhu hill and thus provides beautiful scenery for the visitors. Every year, many devotees of Hanuman come here to worship Lord Hanuman. Also, the monkey surrounding the temple do attacks the people for the purpose of food and Prasad. One can reach this temple by steep walk of 45 minutes. The valleys surrounding, Deodar trees, playful monkeys are some of the attractions of Jakhu Hill.

      Every year thousands of tourists come to Jakhu Hill to experience the view of Himalayan Mountain from this place. The attractions of Jakhu hills such as Hanuman Mandir, Range of Deodar trees, playful monkeys also attract many people. One must make a visit to Jakhu hill in Shimla. Some of the other famous hill stations near Shimla are Dharamshala , Dalhousie, Manali , Palampur etc.

      History of Jakhu Hill


      According to the priests of the Hanuman temple, there was once a friendly monkey named Babu Ram who was a very familiar figure of this hill for nearly 2-3 years. The priests of the temple and the devotees visiting the temple were very much impressed by the behavior of monkey Babu Ram. Unfortunately 5 years ago, Babu Ram was killed in a fight with his fellow monkey. He was then buried near to the Hanuman Temple.

      It is said that the Hanuman temple is situated here since the time of Ramayana. This temple was made after the visit of Hanuman to the Jakhu hill. It is said that when Lord Hanuman was returning back with the mountain of Sanjeevani medicine, he rested on Jakhu hills and the top of this hill flatted by the weight of Hanuman. This temple was made in the same place where Lord Hanuman sat for rest.


      Attractions in Jakhu Hill


    • One of the popular attraction in Jakhu hill is the Hanuman temple where most of the tourists come to worship Lord Hanuman.

    • This place is also home of hundreds of playful monkeys. These monkeys often attack people for the purpose of food and Prasad.

    • Jakhu hill is the highest peak of Shimla which provides picturesque view of Himalayan mountains.



    • How to reach Jakhu Hill


      By roadways:
      Jakhu hill is just 2km far from main town of Shimla, so one can easily reach this place by hiring taxi or local bus.

      By railway:
      Daily routine Kalka Shimla Train can take you to main town of Shimla. From here one can hire taxi to reach Jakhu Hill.

      By Airways
      You can also use Indian airways to reach Shimla and then reach Jakhu hill by local taxis which are always available outside the airport of Shimla.
