Lobsang Sangay New Prime Minister of Tibet Dalai Lama's Political Successor


Lobsang Sangay has sworn in as new Prime Minister of Tibet Governement in Exile in Dharamshala Himachal Pradesh. Lobsang Sangay is just 43 year old young Tibetan Leader. Lobsang Sangay is a Harvard scholar.

This is assumed as an historical shift in Tibet's freedom movement which was mainly dominated by religious figures. Interestingly the Tibet's new appointed Prime Minister, Lobsang Sangay has never visited. According to Lobsang Sangay during his visit to China few years ago he was not allowed to visit Tibet.

Though Dalai Lama has passed on many responsibilities to Lobsang Sangay, His Highness will still be retaining the more important role of spiritual leader along with responsibilities of major policy-making decisions.

There are many challenging and daunting tasks ahead of Lobsang Sangay. The major challenge is his acceptance because Lobsang Sangay is not much known outside the narrow confines of the exiled community.

Lobsang Sangay believes in "meaningful autonomy" for Tibet under rule of China.

The oath taking ceremony took place in the presence of His Highness The Dalai Lama, was at Tsuglagkhang Temple in Mcleodganj Dharamshala where the Tibetan government in exile has its HQ.

Lobsang Sangay was born and brought up in Darjeeling. After his schooling Lobsang Sangay studied at Delhi University and then went to finish his master's degree at Harvard Law School.

He has also taken up residency in United States and became a senior fellow at the school.
