Ice Skating is term used for the sport in which we move on a snow track with the help of skates. Who organise the Ice skating carnival?



The Shimla Ice skating club, organise the carnival every year with two sessions daily, one in morning and other in the evening. The rink is also maintained by the same club. Ice skating carnival includes a fancy dress competition and figure skating events.

There is a hanging balloon at the Municipal building which acts as a signal of whether the skating will occur or not at that particular day.

The club also provides short term and long term memberships for the regular lovers of this sport. Basic equipments like cap, skate, kneepads etc. are also provided by the Shimla Ice skating club but those who wish to use their own are also allowed.


What are the dangers and risks associated with Ice skating?



Although accidents are very rare but can occur with the negligence of skaters. The primary danger associated with ice skating is falling on ice while skating. The chance of falling depends mainly on the design of skate and experience of the skater. Falling can be dangerous if the helmet is not used.


Precautions to be taken before going for ice skating-



Ice skating is totally different from the normal skating. It requires much balance and power in the limbs. It is advisable to the people that before going for ice skating they must undergo some professional training.


How to reach Shimla for Ice skating?



1. Shimla by Bus-

Shimla is well connected through buses. It is 110 km from Chandigarh and takes around 4 hours to reach Shimla by bus. There are also direct buses from ISBT Dehli.

2. Shimla by Train-

Shimla has also a railway station but the railway track is of narrow gauge. The nearest broad gauge railway station is Kalka which is 90 km from Shimla.

3. Shimla by Air-

Shimla also has an airport. One can also reach there by flights from Dehli.
