This is a computer graphics question paper for the 6th semester , for the year 2012, Chitkara university , Himachal Pradesh. It is a combination of both multiple choice questions and theory based questions which will help students prepare for the exam in all aspects related to the subject, computer graphics.

General Instructions:
• All questions are compulsory.
• The question paper consists of 18 questions divided into 4 sections A,B,C and D.
• Section A comprises of 20 objective type questions of 1 mark each and having no negative marking for wrong answer.
• Section B comprises of 10 subjective type questions of 02 marks each.
• Section C comprises of 5 subjective type questions of 06 marks each.
• Section D comprises of 2 subjective type questions of 15 marks each.

Q9. Define the term clipping. Name any two algorithms for line clipping.
Q10. If a boundary is 8-connected; can 8-boundary fill algorithm be used to fill the region bounded by that boundary? If no why ?
Q11. Consider a raster system with a resolution of 1024 by 768, what is the size of the raster needed to store 8 bits per pixel?

(Questions 12 to 16 carry 6 marks each)
Q12. How random scan is different from raster scan display ?
Q13. Digitize the line from (12,16) to (1,24) by using bresenham's line drawing algo.
Q14. Derive the 3-D transformation matrix for rotating an object by an angle in a direction of YZ plane.
Q15. What do you mean by projection ? Differentiate between parallel and perspective projection.
Q16. Explain the Z-Buffer algo. What are the advantages of using z-buffer algo ?

SECTION-D
(Question 17 to 18 carry 15 marks each)
Q17. Why line clipping algorithms are not used for clipping a polygon on line to line basis? Explain in detail Sutherland-Hodgeman polygon clipping algorithm.
Q18. (1) Let R be a rectangle window whose lower left corner is at (-3,1) and upper right corner is at (2,6). Clip the following line segments.

(2) derive reflection transformation matrix in 2-D along a general line y=mx+c.
