Where and how to report leakage in water pipes in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh


The contamination of water in Shimla has become a major problem which needs immediate action if further deterioration of the water has to be stopped. To handle this problem the health department and the municipal corporation of Shimla has taken steps of spreading awareness about the water related problems and a help line number , 2620661, has been circulated among the people living in Shimla so that all the faulty pipeline can be reported easily to the administration.

The health department and Municipal corporation of Shimla have come up with a plan of action to tackle diseases like jaundice and diarrhea in the district .Both these bodies will work together in order to take actions to solve the problems related to contamination of water in Shimla.
The IGMC department of the health department of Shimla can be contacted on the help line number 2620661 in case if any one spots out any leakage in drinking water pipes and sewage water pipes anywhere in the town .
This plan of action has been brought to execution so that the water flowing in the pipes of Shimla can be stopped from getting polluted any further and the health standards of the people of Shimla can be improved.
The Indira Gandhi Medical Hospital (IGMC), Shimla has been given orders to contribute in this effort .IGMC will be running some laboratory procedures on the samples of water from different parts of Shimla to determine if the water has any traits of disease causing viruses in it or not.
The cases of water born diseases like jaundice and diarrhea have become frequent in the Shimla district. Recently , 700 cases related to these diseases have come across the health department , especially from the areas of Vikas Nagar, Mallyana, Sanjauli and Chhota Shimla. To curb with this problem the M.C. of Shimla has come with this idea of providing a help line to people of Shimla so that they can inform the administration about the faulty water pipes in their areas.
Due to scarcity of water in Shimla during summer months, people become dependent on the natural resources of water . The areas surrounding these natural resources of water are generally tainted, which causes the water to contain germs. And because the drinking water pipes remain empty in these days , the water from sewage water pipes enters into them due to air pressure difference. These are the two major reasons of water being infected in Shimla.
The administration of Shimla is trying to spread awareness regarding all these matters of great concern among the people living in Shimla.
