Kalatop wildlife sanctuary in Lakkar mandiHere we are talking about one of the smallest sanctuary of Himachal Pradesh which is known as Kala top wildlife sanctuary. This sanctuary area with its well laid out trekking jungle trails both at Kalatop and Khajjiar is a tourist paradise, in these jungles there is a dense Deodar and Fir trees are present. Visitors can see here pheasants in these jungles but should be beware of black bear which can be encountered often in the jungle. Here in this sanctuary there are so many varieties of flora and fauna. A very thick and dark forest crowns the hilltop and perhaps that is why the place has derived its name as Kalatop, which literally means a black cap, when you see this place from the Khajjiar or Dalhousie than it looks like that some is sitting on the hill and has black cap on the head is placed that's why this is so called Kalatop. From this place you can see the panoramic view of surrounding landscapes. One can also see the beautiful view of hills, mountains covered with the snow, the valleys, the hamlets, the greenery and the ruggedness standing from the place. In forest mainly Deodar, kail, spruce, ban trees and various bushes providing a safe habitat for wild animals. Vegetation consists of mixed blue pine and deodar trees, with some greek oak.
However most of the tourists use taxis for this place and best period for visiting this place is in summer.
How to reach this place
This sanctuary is situated in the Lakkar mandi which is in Chamba district, this place is about 35 km from the Chamba, for this place there are only few buses are available from the Chamba but you can reach this place by taxi, for this place there are so many taxis are available. Firstly you have to take taxi for the Lakkar Mandi from this place sanctuary is about 3 km so either you can go in the taxi or can go walk with enjoying the cool and charming climate of this place, but when you are going to this place then beware of black bear. In this place every year there is about 6 to 8 foot snowfall every year in the winter so the best season to visit this place is in the summer when climate is so good and you can fully enjoy this place, but when you are coming to this place then always warm clothes.
